What are sign posts?
Before finding Notice and Note signposts, I found myself telling students to find the important parts of the story with little support to help them identify these important parts. I knew something was lacking because I wasn't sure how to help them find these parts. Notice and Note by Kylene Beers and Robert Probst changed that. They analyzed and study books and stories to discover patterns. These patterns became the signposts. Signposts are essentially important parts of a story that help guide the reader to new information, a question, or an inference. It is my hope that you will find this page a resource for helping your student find signposts and use them to analyze literature.
